TAP Network Membership Milestone

August 22, 2024

TAP Network Reaches 1,000 Members!

We are thrilled to announce a monumental milestone in TAP Network’s 32-year journey. For the first time, we have surpassed the 1,000-member mark! TAP Network’s trajectory reflects the spirit of collaboration, leadership, and community that has been the cornerstone of our growth since its humble beginnings.

Thirty two years ago, eight visionary individuals came together, united by a common goal to collaborate and share compensation data within the tech industry. Since then, our community has flourished, working together to navigate industry challenges and celebrating numerous accomplishments. The friendships forged, stories shared, and continuous support have built a robust foundation that has propelled us to this significant milestone. To explore more about our journey and major milestones, visit the ‘Who We Are’ page on our website here.

Today, TAP Network proudly includes 250 tech companies from coast to coast across Canada, spanning diverse sub-sectors such as Software Products and Services, AI, Quantum Computing, Hardware Design, Development and Manufacturing, VFX, Animation, Video Games and Interactive Digital Media, Clean Tech, AgTech, Life Sciences and Healthcare Tech and more. Our thriving community is composed of 1,000 People and Culture professionals, with the largest member pools in British Columbia (71%), Ontario (12%), Alberta (11%), and Quebec (3%). Our membership in Ontario and Quebec started only 2 years ago and it's been exciting to see the rapid growth in these tech communities.

Member Stories

Our member experiences and stories are a part of TAP Network’s story, so we asked a few members recently, what they most appreciated about TAP Network and what it has meant to them.

Here’s what they had to say:

Claudia Ivanova, Head of Human Resources at Fispan, an API management platform for banks, is a long-term member located in Vancouver and part of our Steering Committee.

“The community and the support that TAP Network provides is unparalleled. I have met so many individuals who have supported me and that I have learned from that I hope to be a part of this group for my entire career and beyond.”

TAP Network is about coming together with like-minded individuals in the HR space to discuss and share stories and advice around the top HR topics.

Jocelyne Beaulieu, Head of People and Operations at Koru, a venture studio funded by the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan, based in Toronto, joined TAP Network last year. In the short time she has been a member she’s taken a leadership role in the community, diving into contributing to our Slack community, stepping up as a Toronto Community Ambassador, attended our member roundtables, and is now serving on the Tech Talent North Conference Steering Committee.

“I have especially appreciated the community since I'm mostly a team of 1 at my organization. The resources available and the opportunity to bounce ideas off other people leaders who face similar situations / challenges has been invaluable, especially since I only just made the leap into the tech industry approx. 2 years ago (and the learning curve is a steep one!)”.

TAP Network is all about creating community and connection for people leaders, and progressing the people function in organizations across the Canadian tech landscape.

Margaux Myers, HR Business Partner at Copperleaf, a software company for asset management, is based in Calgary and another member that has contributed a great deal to the community over the past several years.

“I've made so many great friends by participating in TAP events. These are the people I go to first when I have an HR crisis at work. It's great having an external resource to give you that second opinion.”

What does TAP Network mean to Margaux? Adding arrows to my quiver! The more I hear about how HR professionals at other companies have solved their problems, the better I am able to choose the right "arrow" for the right situation when I encounter them.

Kaitlin Reibling, People & Culture Manager at Sinn Studio, a VR video game startup in Toronto, joined TAP Network last year as well.

“The connection to TAP started because of a need for viable salary data that made sense for our size and industry, but in the last 9 months it has gone so much further than that! Getting that data has been helpful for us to create internal salary bands so we know we are paying fairly and consistently compared to others in our industry…I'm truly thankful for the TAP Network membership so far, and can't wait to see how things grow further…”

What has it meant? Community, data sharing and validation, resource support, an outlet for people leaders and professionals. It’s a place to connect and feel heard.

Defining TAP Network Today

We asked our CEO for her thoughts on what TAP Network is about today…

“It’s the same as it was 25 years ago when I joined, just on a larger scale. It’s still all about strengthening our community. It’s about bringing tech sector peers together, virtually and in person to brainstorm solutions, share tips and connect socially. It’s about providing comprehensive Canadian tech sector data on compensation, diversity and employment policies and practices. It’s about connecting industry and government to help grow Canada’s innovation economy. It’s about mentoring, growing and learning together.” – Stephanie Hollingshead, CEO, TAP Network.
